Immediately after waking up, we grab our phones and check Instagram. Our minds are continuously considering what is happening on Twitter throughout our working hours. Every time we go out, we strive to take at least one flawless image that will make all of our followers envious. Did we even experience the day if our Snapchat or Instagram feeds were not posted? All of this is now a regular occurrence in our lives. Social media has helped us stay sane throughout quarantine and continue our professional lives, so it is not all awful. But you need to take a step back and reconsider your use of social media if the strain of it makes you feel uneasy or undermines your confidence.
Do not feel any guilt when unfollowing someone?
Feel free to unfollow anyone who is detrimental to your peace of mind or mental health, including famous people, influential people, and friends or acquaintances. It is good to finally let go of fake friends who have never treated you nicely but are still active on your social network. Exes who frequently post images with their new spouses are appropriate to unfollow if you find them annoying or uncomfortable. You do not have to put up with the negativity or anything else that lessens the calm and tranquilly of your social media experience.
Post whatever makes you happy
Has it previously occurred to you to feel warm and fuzzy inside after stalking anybody on Instagram? What would happen if you could experience that while browsing your own Facebook or Instagram? Share photos that truly make you happy. Post lots of pictures taken outside if you enjoy the outdoors. Posting on your feed will help you recall this day every time you visit your profile, especially if you are out with friends and having a fantastic time. Again, post images of yourself whenever you are truly happy to remind yourselves of your good times. Your social media page might become your happy place if you let it. It can also be utilised as a location to keep joyful memories.
Never compare yourself to others
Even though you have probably heard this a million times, it is still accurate. Because photos on social media are manipulated and shot from the finest angles, avoid comparing yourself to other users. Additionally, people do not share their dark and terrible moments on social media as frequently as they do their happy ones. Typically, what you see on television is a person’s highlight reel rather than their actual life. You are aware that there are likely ten similar photos to the one you posted that you did not like. Others are also doing the same thing. Therefore, it is impossible to compare your ordinary, unfiltered self to that of another.
Follow whatever brings you joy
It is time to follow everything that makes you happy if you have unfollowed everything that makes you unhappy and if your objective is to make your social media as cheerful as possible for yourself. Follow every account for a puppy. Follow accounts for poems or quotes if you enjoy reading. Whatever helps you feel better, do it. The list is enormous and ranges from food images to random ASMR videos. When your social network can be filled with happiness and your favourite things, why waste time scrolling through time-consuming bad content?
Take a healthy break
Although you should avoid negative information, there are situations when we unintentionally do so. As a result, it is important to take a break from social media occasionally. Even if social media uplifts you and increases your confidence, you need to occasionally take a break to re-establish contact with reality and spend some time by yourself. Whether we are aware of it or not, we are constantly seeking amusing memes or stories to share. Even if it uplifts you, it could still occupy a significant portion of your mind. You must occasionally give your body and mind a rest.
Always take time to put your mental health first. That is more important than any social media post.
